Outgoing Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has challenged his successors to uphold the spirit of service delivery in the judicairy without interference on its independence.

Speaking at his farewell party organised by the JSC,  Mutunga called upon his successors to make the supreme court a more reliable court, saying that judicial independence cannot be traded with political tactics.

JSC members Prof. Margaret Kobia assured the outgoing CJ that justice delivery won't be compromised at the judiciary.

Present at the event were JSC Chief Registrar Anne Amadi , President of the Court of Appeal Kihara Kariuki, court of appeal president justice Richard Mwongo, other judges from the various courts as well as advocates from various counties in the country.

All the guests who spoke at the event commended Mutunga for his great efforts in reforming the judiciary and for his efforts to prepare the judiciary staff before his early retirement.

Dr Mutunga, who hit 69 years on his retirement date last month has been at the helm of the Judiciary since June 20, 2011.

He is now a Commonwealth Special Envoy to Maldives, as appointed by Commonwealth secretary general Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland.
