The new Kenya Youth Employment and Opportunities Project will train 280,000 youth, Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs CS Sicily Kariuki has said.
Speaking on Monday during the State House Youth summit hosted by President Uhuru, Kariuki said over 165,000 youth were already empowered through partnerships with development partners and private sectors.
"Huduma centres are supporting the youth agenda across the country offering services that support Youth Empowerment. The YouthFund has disbursed Sh11.7 billion to 258,000 youth owned enterprises while the Affirmative Funds have made available Sh25 billion to over Sh3 million young Kenyans," she said.
The CS added:" 31,000 tenders worth Sh40 billion have been awarded under the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) and the UwezoFund has disbursed Sh1.8 billion to 20,000 youth groups."
While commending youth for what she termed as 'strength, wealth and drivers of innovation in Kenya', Kariuki noted that AGPO has had uptake and payment challenges and promised the youth that the Government was addressing those issues.
