The governor's sentiments come moments after reports emerged that incumbent Senator Chris Obure and former CIC Chairman Charles Nyachae had teamed up to dislodge him from the gubernatorial seat.

But in an exclusive interview at his official residence, Mr Ongwae accused his unnamed opponents of envy and vowed to vanquish them in 2017 elections with ease.

“I am one man who doesn’t fear elections because it’s all about democracy. I don’t like politicking especially when I am mandated to work for people but when that time comes, residents will give me marks based on my contribution to economic progress in our county,” he said.

“Most of my critics have no substantial claim but this is all about envy. Some didn’t ever believe that I could be governor and now they are fighting me. I am strong because my people are behind me and for now, I am focused to do what I was elected to do,” he added.

He urged community leaders from his county to support his government deliver on its promises and shun early campaigns for the sake of development.

"Elections will come and go that is a fact. I have never been scared because it won’t be my first time to compete. But it’s critical that my fellow leaders become agents of development rather than being an impediment to progress. Time for campaigns will come and residents will choose whoever they want,” he said.
