Daraja Mbili traders have been told to pay levies to the county government to receive better services from the government.
Speaking on Tuesday in Kisii, Samuel Opondo, the Revenue Officer called upon the traders to pay levies to enhance services at the market, noting that a large number of the traders have a tendency of absconding to pay the revenues.
He said some have even formed links to alert one another of the officers when collecting the revenue.
“Some people are very loud when it comes to demanding for better services yet they are very good at evading paying for the services. This money does not go into our pockets as some of the traders think. The same money is used to improve services for you traders," he said.
He says for the services to be offered efficiently, the traders had to pay the levies in term of taxes.
The traders however faulted the officers saying they pay taxes yet the services remain the same.
“I have been paying taxes for years yet no services have ever been improved. In fact the market is dirty than ever before,” says Jeff Moguche, a trader.
