According to Ronald Ongweso, a doctor in the area, many residents who reside next to small bushes and stagnant water are likely to contract malaria because this provides more breeding grounds for mosquitoes during the heavy April rains.

Speaking at his clinic on Monday afternoon, Ongweso said that the percentage of malaria will increase and residents need to take preventive measures to keep mosquitoes away.

“It is our mandate to have measures in place to prevent malaria from attacking us. People should know how to take preventive measures to keep mosquitoes transmitting malaria away. Breeding of mosquitoes will be high in the stagnant water and small bushy areas around our living premises such places should be cleared and drain water away,” he said.

He noted that blocked drainage systems should be unblocked to allow free flow of water.
