At a time when many parts of the country are feeling the effects of the ongoing dry spells, Kisii County has not been spared with the residents having to grapple with water rationing.
Kisii County residents who have in the past enjoyed an adequate supply of water will have to contend with the current situation as the taps run dry forcing the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company (Gwasco) to ration the precious resource.
According to Gwasco Managing Director Eng Zachariah Moguche, some water vendors have taken advantage of the current situation to start fetching water from the wells and sell to the residents. However, he expressed his fears whether the water is safe for human consumption and that they are going to carry out tests on various water samples to ascertain its suitability.
"We will make public our results of the tests before end month. We urge our customers to bear with us and use the available water sparingly," said Moguche.
In the neighboring Kisumu, the story is not any different with the residents forced to bear with the current situation.
The Kisumu Water and Sewerage Company (KIWASCO) has already given a notice to the residents of the impending water shortage.
