Commission Chairman Otiende Amollo said Kisumu is facing huge complaints on security, land grabbing and salary debts.

Mr Otiende who was in Kisumu on Thursday to address county officials during the opening of a two day training on complain handling within the county said the commission was willing to work with counties to promote service delivery.

“Each county has unique issues facing them, and in the case of Kisumu we have received many complaints on insecurity, land grabbing and the debts which the county owes the former municipal council workers in terms of unpaid salary arrears,” said Otiende.

He said the commission is ready to help Kisumu County come up with a strong complaint desk, which will have issues raised and solved without necessarily reaching the commission, adding that it has already started engaging the various entities to ensure that justice is done in service delivery.

According to Otiende, the county governments had inherited assets and liabilities from the defunct local authorities, hence would be engaged in ensuring that the former council workers are paid their dues.

“Some of the issues facing the people are small issues which can be handled at the county level, but lack of the complaints desk has seen people come to us. Most organization have complaints boxes which are not even checked for years,” added Otiende.

He said: “The county governments need us and we have to work together, as we have done with the national government where we criticise the wrong either by the president or any other person but we still relate on common grounds and work together.”
