Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has hit out at leaders from Mt Kenya region supporting Deputy President William Ruto.
On Tuesday Wambugu said that Ruto's tactic in Mt Kenya is geared towards driving the bloc away from President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of 2022.
“What they don’t realize is that what William Ruto is trying to do is to wrestle the Mt Kenya vote bloc away from Uhuru Kenyatta before 2022 so that he doesn’t have to offer the region anything or negotiate with them, for them to vote for him in that election,” said the Nyeri Town MP in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
“What we should ask is what these leaders fighting for him have received from him now that they have shown us they are willing to fight Uhuru for Ruto. And whether what they have been paid is theirs with their families alone, or it’s also for the community," Wambugu.
Ngunjiri has publicly been opposed to Ruto's 2022 presidential bid and is the leader of Kieleweke team which is fighting to ensure Ruto does not clinch the presidency.
Some of the Mount Kenya leaders who have openly supported Ruto's 2022 presidential bid include Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah, who is one of the DP’s fiercest defenders, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, Kandara MP Alice Wahome among others.
