Residents using 12 Kilometer Gatukuyu-Makwa-Ng’ethu road in Gatundu North, Kiambu County on Wednesday held a peaceful demonstration over the poor state of the road after a series of incurred weighty losses of their farm produce and vehicle damages.
The convener of the procession that attracted a sizeable number of the locals led by boda boda operators went on for three hours, with the residents saying they resolved to hold the peaceful demo following poor political leadership in the area.
The demonstrators who included poultry and banana farmers, Matatu and Boda Boda operators who use the road blamed the local political leadership for failing to agitate for the repair of the road where some farmers said they have lost hundreds of egg trays due to breakages.
"This has been the way of life for most of us. We are however tired now after experiencing huge vehicle damages, eggs breakage and milk damages while on transport. Our leaders seem to care less for they don’t reside here and our only hope is Uhuru Kenyatta who we ask to intervene and push for this road tarmacking," said one of the residents.
Boda Boda operators underscored that the state of the road had led to many accidents where one operator died last month after his motorbike hit a pot hole while one woman is currently admitted in Gatundu Level 4 hospital after she fell when the motor bike she was traveling in was also involved in an accident along the same road last week.
They are now calling on His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta to hear their cry since local leaders do not seem to care.
