Nyamusi Secondary School principal Willis Okaro said the programme will help in increasing the number of girls' contact hours in school.

Okaro lauded the government for introducing the free sanitary towels for primary schools, stressing that the initiative should extended to secondary schools because that is the level with the highest number of adolescent girls.

"It has been unusual norm in Kenya for girls to miss school when they are menstruating due to lack of sanitary pads, and this has prompted us to start an initiative to provide sanitary pads to our female students every term," noted the principal.

He spoke during a girl child empowerment day.
