There was heated debate at the Kisumu County Assembly on Thursday afternoon after Central Nyakach MCA Elijah Omondi claimed some MCAs received dairy cows at the expense of Kisumu residents during a recent exercise where dairy animals were given to groups.

Omondi said he had tabled a statement in the Assembly directed to the Livestock and Fisheries Committee chaired by Awasi MCA Fanuel Aim about the exercise but the answer was not forthcoming.

Omondi said he was afraid that the committee led by Aim has been compromised and they were unwilling to bring a report to the Assembly since they were given a dairy cow.

He demanded that the Committee gives a break-down of how the dairy animals, goats, chicken and bee hives were distributed by the executive to the county residents.

Omondi said one of the MCAs in the Committee was given a dairy cow adding that several residents who had been looking forward to get the animals did not.

“The animals were to benefit those who are vulnerable in the society, why is it that a MCA got one animal,” he asked.

Omondi said he will make the name of the MCA public in the Assembly if the Committee will not have brought the report about the animals in the Assembly next week.

Aim was agitated by the claim from Omondi and urged him to substantiate.

The Sh17.5 million project to distribute the animals, chicken, goats and bee hives was presided over by Ida Odinga and Olivia Ranguma on September 20.
