President Uhuru Kenyatta has confirmed that the 34 schools which are not connected to the national grid will be connected in the coming weeks.
“Only 34 schools remain and we'll connect them to the national grid in the coming weeks,” pointed out Uhuru in his latest tweet on Thursday afternoon.
The President, however, asserted that the government has so far connected 709 primary schools in Nakuru County with electricity.
“We have so far connected 709 primary schools in Nakuru County to the electric grid,” said the Head of State.
According to Uhuru, 130,000 households in Nakuru have been connected to electricity by the government.
This is close to the 146,000 households connected to electricity between 1963 and 2013
The latest move comes in backdrop of a pact between Kenya and Japan when Finance Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and Japanese Ambassador to Kenya Tatsushi Terada, this month signed an arrangement to which the Japanese Government has assured a Sh40.6 billion loan to finance construction of a new 140 MegaWatt unit at the Olkaria Geothermal Fields in Naivasha, Nakuru County to boost the 5,000 MegaWatt electricity generation target.
President Kenyatta has in the meantime promised to be back in Nakuru in the coming months to commission the Sh38 billion Itare Dam project.
