Deputy President William Ruto insists calls by Cord seeking to disband the IEBC should be done through Parliament.
On Tuesday, the DP who was responding to a tweet by US envoy Robert Godec urging dialogue over the impasse, was quick to state that removal of the IEBC commissioners be done as per the Constitution.
Ruto who is on official tour in Turkey, said protests breed bloodshed, destruction and anarchy.
“Agreed. Protests breed bloodshed, destruction and anarchy. Structured talks in Parliament is the constitutional option,” was the DP’s reply.
Godec, who was among the first foreign envoys to voice his concern over the Monday demos, also called on the authorities to exercise restraint and Kenyans to maintain peace.
The police have come under the radar both locally and internationally over the manner in which they have handled the protests.
On Monday, three people died in Kisumu and Siaya counties, while several Cord supporters were injured during the protests which have now been decentralised to the counties.
“Deeply concerned by violence around IEBC demonstrations. (I) urge authorities to show restraint and all to be peaceful. Dialogue is needed now,” was Amb Godec ‘s tweet.
Cord wants the IEBC commissioners send home claiming they plan to rig the 2017 elections in favour of Jubilee. The coalition has been holding weekly demos to champion its course.
Both Jubilee and the IEBC have denied the allegations.
