President Uhuru Kenyatta has been urged to tame his Gusii campaign team on grounds that it was doing more harm than good in his 2017 re-election bid.
Uhuru’s campaign team comprises top brass leaders among them Walter Nyambati, Charles Nyachae and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi.
And veteran Kanu politician Nyarangi Moturi on Thursday said the President could be charged harshly by the electorate based on the ‘reckless’ statements by his campaign team.
“Time has come for the President to tame his campaign team if he wants to garner votes from Gusiiland. His men are engaging in reckless utterances that are detrimental to the electorate and that will severely cost him,” he said.
“You cannot tell people to join Jubilee or continue having stalled projects for supporting the opposition. They should rather urge the President to complete the projects so that people can change their minds and vote him rather than engaging in such rhetoric,” he added, referring to a statement that was made by Jomo Kenyatta Foundation chair Walter Nyambati recently.
Gusii region which comprises Nyamira and Kisii counties overwhelmingly voted for opposition leader Raila Odinga but the President has been keen on making inroads and has visited the regions on several occasions since his election in 2013.
