Thousands of foreign and domestic tourists are ever visiting the Lord McMillan’s castle. Located on the east of Ol Donyo, this tourist attraction was the home of Lord William Northrop Macmillan (1872-1925), a former American soldier.

Macmillan came into the country in 1904. It became popular after housing Theodore Roosevelt, the former American President, Sir Winston Churchill, the war time prime minister of Britain and Prince Amedeo, the commander of Italian forces.

It has underground tunnels used to hold secret meetings in war time. It also served as a military hospital during the First World War.

One of the rooms in the castle has a trap door that can be lifted to reveal a wooden ladder, which leads to an underground bunker.

According to sources, prisoners were kept in the underground bunker. This is among the things that will make you fall in love with this castle even more.

It is advisable to avoid the bunker if you are faint hearted. The Macmillan family left a positive legacy after they decided to build and support Macmillan Library in Nairobi.

He was buried at the top of Ol Donyo Sabuk with his wife, dog and servant.
