The United States deployed Special Forces immediately to Manda Airfield following an Al-Shabaab attack on Sunday.
US Africa Command said Special Forces from East Africa Response Force (EARF) were deployed to the region for reinforcement.
The force, stationed in various countries across East Africa, provides rapid response whenever such emergencies arise.
“The EARF provides a critical combat-ready, rapid deployment force,” said U.S. Army Maj. Gen. William Gayler, director of operations, U.S. Africa Command.
“The EARF’s ability to respond to events spanning a vast area of responsibility provides a proven and invaluable on-call reinforcement capability in times of need.”
The EARF, under the command and control of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, responds to a broad range of military operations including the protection of US citizens.
Also, it protects diplomatic facilities, support for non-combatant evacuation operations, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief operations, and other missions as directed.
One US serviceman and two American contractors were killed during the Sunday's daring attack by the Al-Shabaab.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i dismissed claims that KDF troops were killed during the six hours intensive fighting with the Al-Shabaab militants.
EARF managed to secure Manda Airstrip following the combat. Six aircrafts belonging to the US military were destroyed.
