Emerging details indicate that Deputy President William Ruto could be innocent, at a time when people around him are finding themselves in trouble over his alleged murder plot.
A letter that is allegedly written by a Cabinet Secretary to President Uhuru Kenyatta with the details emerged earlier last week.
However, the letter has since been found to be a forgery done by people around him, resulting in arrests, including that of State House Digital Director Denis Itumbi on Wednesday.
But the Nation has since established that though the letter might have been done by people close to him, the DP was completely in the dark and has taken the matter seriously.
“In fact, the boss was shaken when he got wind of it. It is at this point that he took it up with the President,” a source at his Harambee Annex offices told the paper.
Itumbi is set to be charged with publishing alarming information, with further details indicating that he could lend the next two weeks in custody as investigations prevail.
According to the letter dated May 30, four Cabinet Secretaries from Mt Kenya region met at the Lamada Hotel to plot the DP's assassination.
The blame landed on CSs Peter Munya (Trade), James Macharia (Transport), Joe Mucheru (ICT) and Sicily Kariuki (Health), who have since denied plotting anything of such nature.
According to the Nation, the plot was to make the letter go viral, in exchange for political benefits for the DP, apparently for political sympathy ahead of his 2022 presidential bid.
However, it ended up attracting the attention of the police and the presidency which was not part of the plan, and which is now resulting in casualties within the DP's office.
