Jane Onyango, a Kibera resident, is a lady who never chooses the type of job she does. She says she is comfortable doing anything provided it is legal.
Speaking this morning at Laini Saba shopping centre, Ms Onyango said she decided to venture into the shoe shining business 2 years back when she came to Nairobi to seek employment.
“I came to Nairobi in the year 2014. I had the zeal to work since my parents could not pay my college fees. I decided to start a shoe shining business. Since then, I have been working as a shoe shiner comfortably serving Kibera residents at large,” she said.
She said she enjoys the job and gets good money from it.
“I came here to work and earn a living. Despite what people think, I came here with a target and I plan on attaining it,’’ she said.
The female cobbler urged her fellow women to compete with men who believe they only fit in specific jobs. She pointed out that women are able as well as men in the era we live in.
