The attack on two elderly farmers at Utheri wa Lari Farm in Maai Mahiu on Tuesday morning was the working of a larger antagonising political force, Mt Kenya leaders have said.
In a joint statement at the Naivasha Sub-county hospital on Wednesday, nominated Senator Paul Njoroge Ben claimed there are two leaders; one from Narok and another from Kajiado who could have fuelled the fight.
“There are two people who are leaders, one elected in Kajiado and the other in Narok, and I want to tell them that we will not let even an inch of this land go to them as they want. Those who are living here are the rightful owners and we will not let fights to cow us,” he said.
Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri said it was a tact formulated by some people to take away Jubilee votes before the 2017 general election.
“Last year, they killed some people and now they wanted to kill these two. They want to reduce our votes but we are telling them that we are not cowed by people coming with pangas because this is our land and we are not letting it go,” said Ngunjiri.
He also said the proposed Standard Gauge Railway set to be constructed in the area had contributed to the fresh attacks.
Utherei wa Lari has been at the centre of controversy for a long time with the two communities - the Maasai and Kikuyu - fighting for ownership
The farm has more than 8, 000 settlers in it and stretches to over 20 acres.
