A Nyamira lawmaker has vehemently denied allegations that he has been issuing CDF cheques to students who are not natives of his constituency.
Mr Charles Geni of North Mugirango had been subjected to social media ridicule with a section of residents accusing him of issuing cheques to residents of Taita Taveta County where his wife reportedly hails from.
But in a telephone interview with this writer on Saturday, Geni has termed the allegations ‘fictitious’ and challenged his accusers to table evidence that could implicate him.
“I am shocked that people can come with such fictitious information and I want to challenge them to come forth and table any evidence linking me to such fraud. I am ready to face them in a court of law to clear my name,” Geni said.
“The CDF regulations are crystal clear and I cannot be able to mutilate it to favour my desires. The fund is meant for needy people who hail from the constituency and it doesn’t matter where they are schooling. I cannot defraud people of North Mugirango,” he added.
He accused his opponents of fueling ‘hatred’ and urged residents to shun ‘elements’ of impunity allegedly out to defame his character.
“I know my opponents are out to defame me but that cannot detract me from doing what is right for my people. I know the elements of impunity that are spreading hatred but life must go on because the truth shall come out,” he said.
