Former Land minister Charity Ngilu has thrown her weight behind Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka saying he should be the Cord flag-bearer in the 2017 presidential election.
According to the Nation, Ngilu at the same time asked Cord co-principals Raila Odinga and Moses Wetangula to shelve their ambitions in favour of Kalonzo.
She said the former Vice President stands a better chance to defeat President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto in next year’s polls.
“It is no doubt that [among] the three Cord co-principals, Kalonzo has all it takes to send the Jubilee administration home given his impeccable statesmanship and unblemished profile,” Ngilu said as quoted by the Nation.
She said if Kalonzo gets firm backing from his opposition colleagues, he will easily trounce Uhuru and Ruto.
“I believe he can beat UhuRuto hands down if accorded firm support by fellow opposition leaders and supporters,” she said.
The former presidential candidate who spoke during a funeral in Mutula Village, Kitui Central sub-county, said she regrets campaigning for Uhuru and Ruto in 2013 elections and urged the Kamba community to rally behind Kalonzo’s bid.
“I will not make the same mistake this time round. I have made a resolve to back Kalonzo Musyoka. I beseech the entire Kamba community to rally behind our own son as well,” she said.
