An Al-Shabaab commander who has been operating within the Kenyan coast was on Sunday arrested by security agents, reports have emerged.
Mr Ahmed Hamdun, 28, was flushed out of his hideouts in Majengo estate in Mombasa after years of hiding from security agents.
The muilti-agency team is currently holding him for more interrogation. He was linked to the Dusit D2 hotel attack in Nairobi in which over 21 people were killed.
Police accuse him of facilitating return of suicide bomber, Mahir Riziki from Somalia to Kenya prior to the deadly attack in one of most protected complex.
The progress comes amid another police alert following alleged crossing over of another Al-Shabaab militant from Somalia to Kenya.
Khalif Abdi is believed to have crossed over to the country after completing his sentence in Somalia over terror related charges. It's not clear where he is currently hiding in Kenya.
“He was briefly interrogated at Mogadishu airport while waiting for his flight before he was allowed to travel. He comes from Habargidir clan,” police said.
Police spokesman Charles Owino told Abdi to report to the nearest police station with immediate effect.
"Any person who has seen him or has information about him should also do the same immediately or contact us by calling our toll free lines 999,911,112,” said Owino.
A statement by Somalia security forces on Monday confirmed that Abdi was arrested and later on released after serving two years in prison.
