The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has identified counties that are on the exam body’s radar over cheating in national examinations.
The council has identified at least sixteen counties which will be closely monitored as both Primary and secondary schools start preparing their students for the exams.
Among the counties that have been identified include Machakos, Garissa, Kisumu, Kisii, Meru, Isiolo, Turkana, West Pokot, Kericho, Narok, Elgeyo Marakwet, Wajir, Mandera, Bungoma, Homa Bay and Migori.
This year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) will be between October 29 and 31 while the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will begin on October 21 until November 27.
The exam body used pre-monitoring data and last year’s feedback reports and schools that were identified last year that are likely to cheat to identify counties that will need close supervision during this year’s exams.
“We are keenly following schools in these counties. They include the notorious ones and a few new ones trying their luck,” said a senior Knec official as quoted by standardmedia.co.ke.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said measures have been put in place to ensure there will be no exam cheating this year adding that security surveillance will extend around examination centres to beyond school compounds.
“The script of managing the examinations this year will contain a few enhanced measures aimed at sealing off minor loopholes that criminals attempted to use last year to introduce cheating, especially in the KCSE examination,” said Magoha.
