A Nyamira based Non-Governmental Organisation is set to plant one million trees in the county in a forestation campaign.
Beryl Foundation, an NGO that deals with environmental sustainability initiatives intends to hit the target within the next five years.
Speaking to journalists in Nyamira town on Friday, the foundation’s CEO Henry Onyambu said the initiative is being conducted under a project dubbed ‘Look for a reason to plant trees; a million trees million dreams campaign’
According to Onyambu, the project, once completed would see to it that 1, 000 trees are planted within each of the 1, 000 public primary and secondary schools in the county
The CEO revealed that the project, which was launched early this year has already planted 102, 000 trees within some of the earmarked schools.
He further called on the government, the public and other key stakeholders to work hand-in-hand to make the initiative a success.
“I call on both the national and county government, the members of the public and other stakeholders to give a helping hand to enable the organisation hit its target within the set time frame,” he appealed.
