An incitement case against Machakos Senator Muthama Johnson began yesterday.
Muthama was accused of making inciteful remarks at a rally organized by the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) hosted at Uhuru Park in 2015.
The prosecution team claims it has adeqaute evidence against Muthama and has prepared 10 witnesses to testify in the case facincg the Senator and Japheth Muroki who faces similar charges.
John Gichuhi, a police officer was summoned by the court in order to give information over the matter. He informed trial magistrate Francis Andayi that Muthama made inciteful statements while speaking to Cord supporters at the rally in a bid to back the striking teachers.
He said that Muthama emotionally told the crowd that those who will defy the directive issue and go to work will be stoned.
“He started his speech by saying bado mapambano [the struggle continues] and went further to say the opposition will lead Kenyans to State House,” he said, as quoted by the Star.
Gichuhi told the court that Muthama said, “If teachers are not being paid, nobody will go to work and whoever goes will be stoned.”
The police office confirmed that he was deployed to Uhuru Park on September 23, while working at Makadara police station.
