The Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has exited its operations in Garissa.
This has been occasioned by the entry of Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Kentraco).
According to Nation Fm, Kentraco connected the town to the national power grid via the Kindaruma-Mwingi-Garissa 132KV substation that was commissioned on Friday by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
KenGen now winds up its operations in Garissa after 18 years of supplying power to one of the fastest growing town in the region. However, according to President Uhuru Kenyatta, the connection to the national grid will ease the economic development of North Eastern region.
“North Eastern has now been connected to the national power grid, facilitating the economic development of the region,” said Uhuru.
This is the first time North Eastern region is connected to the national power grid.
