Speaking to Thika Bodaboda Association members in Thika Town on Thursday, Agnes Kareithi, a businesswoman and expert on financial matters, noted that proper planning for the holidays was key to avoiding what she termed as 'financial hangover' come January next year.

"The problem with many of us during this season is that we tend to spend way too much, eat too much and drink too much without caring that there are things to take care of after the festive craze is over. Proper planning is very necessary for anybody who wants to avoid January financial hangover," said Kareithi.

She advised those with salaries, for instance, to take time from the festive vortex to think of the coming year and plan ahead.

"Work out how much your monthly expenses are and put that money aside preferably in a difficult place to access. Then make a Christmas budget and ensure that you strictly stick to it," added Kareithi.

She further asked residents to avoid incurring debts as much as possible by spending within their means and avoiding impromptu spending.
