Naivasha police boss Titus Munywoki has warned members of the public against milling around accident scenes.
Speaking Wednesday, Munywoki said by doing so, such individuals were exposing themselves to grave danger and impeding the work of police and rescue officers.
He was referring to the Tuesday incident in which a fuel tanker carrying bitumen lost control before ramming into several vehicles and bursting into flames along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu highway.
The police boss stated that more casualties could have been reported as several residents jammed the scene and kept moving towards the ensuing flames without taking any precautionary measures.
One person died while three others were rushed to Naivasha District Hospital following the accident.
Cases of members of the public perishing in such incidents are a common occurrence in the area.
