Nominated Senator Martha Wangari made history on Friday as the first woman in the current Senate to have a Bill she has sponsored signed into law.
President Uhuru Kenyatta appended his signature to the County Government (Amendment) Bill sponsored by the nominated senator that ensures all the 47 county assemblies are properly constituted before their first sitting after the next polls.
The Bill necessitates that all nominated MCAs be sworn in at the same time as their elected colleagues before any assembly holds its first sitting.
"It is now against law for the assemblies to have their first sitting before their nominated colleagues join them, a common scenario," she said.
The nominated senator expressed joy as the first woman to sponsor a Bill in the present Senate and have it passed by both Houses with minimal changes.
She is now the second female to have a law to her name in the 11th Parliament after Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo.
