Confirming the incident, Masinga police boss Mashua Juma said that the girls' mother had previously accused the girl of having an affair with a certain man whom she ordered police to arrest.

The police officers actually arrested him but he was later released after he was found not guilty.

Juma said that the woman accused her daughter of not being serious in her studies and beat her thoroughly.

"The woman decided to 'discipline' her daughter badly over a relationship she had, just because she is in secondary school which led to her death after she was rushed to Matuu level four hospital for treatment," said Juma.

The woman was arrested and taken to Masinga police station as she awaits to undergo medical checkups on whether there were different other forces which might have forced her to commit such an offense.

Juma thanked residents for not taking the law into their hands against the woman.
