Reports from media indicate that Coast Regional Coordinator John Elungata confirmed the killing of the suspects shortly after the Kenyan army launched an ambush at Nyongoro.

Suspected Al Shabaab militants attacked a passenger bus that was travelling from Lami to Mombasa. The attack left 3 people dead and 3 others seriously injured.

Further reports have however revealed that the number of victims of the attack may be higher.

“The bus had more than 40 passengers and was sprayed randomly with bullets. It’s unfortunate that the number of deaths and injuries might be higher,” Omar Yusuf, a passenger of the bus, stated.

The terrorists are reported to have attempted to stop the bus but the driver sped off from the scene.

The militants were forced to shoot at the bus. According to County Commissioner Irungu Macharia, the victims of the attack are yet to be identified.

The Kenyan Defense Force (KDF) soldiers were sent to pursue the suspected terrorists after the attack. The soldiers surrounded the Nyongoro area which is believed to be a hot spot for Al Shabaab attacks.

This is however not the first attack that the terror militia group has launched on passenger vehicles in Kenya.

On December 6, 2019, A suspected Al Shabaab group attacked a bus in Mandera and allegedly killed 11 passengers.
