The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua on Friday explained why he restricted playing of 'Wamlambez' and 'Tetema' songs to clubs and bars only.
In a tweet, the KFCB boss noted that the two songs are just not suitable for kids, hence they should be restricted.
"The songs Tetema and Wamlambez that we have restricted are not illegal. They are just not suitable for children. Just the way beer is not illegal, but there is an age restriction on alcohol consumption. Such products are restricted for adult consumption only!" he said.
Comparing the two songs to the consumption of beer, Mutua noted that the only way children can be safeguarded from bad content is restricting airplay for such songs.
"Such products are restricted for adult consumption only. If artistes do not wish to have their content restricted, then let it be suitable for all ages. Content with scenes or language meant for adult audiences should not be aired during the watershed period (5 am to 10 pm).," he added.
Following a public uproar, Mutua allowed the songs to be played on-air at late hours of the night over their explicit video content.
