Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei has said President Uhuru Kenyatta can go for the position of Prime Minister (PM) after 2022, if the Constitution will be amended to allow for the same.
She said if the Constitution is amended to create position of PM, as recommended by the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, Uhuru will have to begin with vying for MP seat, win, then wait to be recommended by his party.
"Honorable Murathe's statement that Uhuru can be Prime Minister. To become Prime Minister as per the BBI recommendation, he will have to run for the Gatundu seat, become an MP and then he will be appointed, if his party agrees, as Prime Minister, which he is welcome to do," she said in an interview on Citizen TV, Tuesday.
Regarding the BBI recommendations, Shollei noted that Kenya has more pressing issues than calls for a referendum.
She urged leaders to focus on development and other important issues like fight against terror, high cost of living among others.
"The reason why I am worried about BBI, we have problems in Kenya; we have security problems, we have locusts, our farmers are crying, tourism is affected, the economy is going bad, is that a priority in Kenya?" she posed.
