At least five people died on spot, Tuesday mourning when a matatu they were travelled in lost control and rolled couple times before plunging into a ditch.
The accident took place near Longisa town in Bomet, an area that has been in the past identified by authorities as a black spot.
A witness, Job Nyangena, said the Nairobi bound matatu lost control as the driver struggled to regain. It eventually rolled several times killing five.
He said that passers by managed to resuscitate a number of passengers before they were rushed to the nearby Longisa Hospital.
"The driver lost control and in the next few minutes, the vehicle rolled a couple times. I could count five dead people on the spot," said Nyangena.
Egesa Shuttles operate from Kisii to Nairobi. The accident took place almost near the same spot where another Matatu killed 7 people few years ago.
Area police boss Francis Ng'ang'a regretted the accident and asked drivers to be cautious to avoid deaths during this rainy season.
"The visibility is not that clear. We are investigating the cause. The injured ones are receiving treatment at Longisa Hospital," he said.
The accident takes place at the time Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i is in the process of introducing digital speedometers to detect reckless drivers.
