For the past months, Rift Valley politics has been reported having taken a twist as the two key leaders in the region are constantly clashing ideologically.
Bomet governor, Isaac Rutto and deputy president, William Ruto have been clashing for a while now. Rutto accuses Ruto of giving the people empty promises which he never fulfils. On the other hand, Ruto accuses the governor of embracing politics meant to divide the rift people. This has led to a strained relationship between the two government officials, something that worries the Kalenjin council of elders.
The elders feel if the misunderstanding is not settled, it might lead to negative results in the near future. The council which is known as Myoot says the strained relationship between the two begun in 2014 when the governor launched his Pesa Mashinani campaign. They said they are ready to reconcile the two before the 2017 elections. They feel the rift between the two might lead to a divided Rift Valley which will give rise to divided votes, hence, no senior government personality will win being next to the president.
