Residents of Kano in Kisumu County have lauded the reconstruction of an expanded Nairobi-Kisumu highway.
The residents said they have noticed a decline in accidents at formerly known black spots.
The people between Boya Market and Ahero town have acknowledged that the highway has reduced the number of lives lost compared to before.
Shop owners along the road who used to witness accidents frequently in the zone have testified.
The formerly known dangerous points include a road bend at Boya primary school and at Boya Satellite.
Most of the victims are bodaboda operators.
"Several lives were lost yearly at these points. But since reconstruction of this road, we have witnessed very few accidents. In fact only one accident has occurred," a shop owner said.
The highway was reconstructed by SBI company under Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA). The segment of the road through the Kano plains was completed in 2013. The former road was very narrow and had several potholes. It also had no lines.
