Kenyans who seek to vote in the coming general elections are currently registering as voters in different places within the country.

The exercise is being carried out by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that seeks to register 8 million voters. The exercised has, however, been put on hold in some places due to unavoidable circumstances.

In Migingo, for instance, the voter registration exercise was put on hold after the Ugandan law ruled against the exercise from taking place.

The Uganda police said the process was put on hold since the ownership of Migingo Island is still being disputed upon. Both Uganda and Kenya say the island belongs to them. The police also arrested two officers from the IEBC who were present at the time they arrived. Their equipment was confisticated during the arrest.

The two were registering voters. The police said the Kenyan government had not informed the Ugandan government of the exercise taking place on the island. They also demanded that the Kenyan government write a formal letter to the Ugandan government to inform them of the exercise.

The two IEBC officials were, however, released after Kenyan police intervened.
