Elders from Uasin Gishu county have demanded that governor Jackson Mandago apologises to Kenyans following his remarks in September where he called for the removal of acting Moi University Vice Chancellor Laban Ayiro.

Speaking in Eldoret on Sunday, the elders called on all Kenyans to shun leaders who were trying to divide the country on ethnic lines.

"We seek all people of goodwill to shun divisive leaders even as we head into an electioneering period. Once again we notice the ugly face of this tribal monster ushered in by Mr Mandago and his colleagues. We wonder if they are patrons of tribalism in the Kalenjin community," said Patrick Kibet, an elder.

Mandago and other Rift Valley leaders recently stormed Moi University to protest the appointment of Professor Laban Ayiro as acting VC.

They called on Education CS Fred Matiang'i to appoint Professor Isaac Kosgey, a local whom they claimed had "emerged top" in the interviews and was an 'insider'.
