Kisii County Director of Meteorological Services Henry Sese has advised county farmers and residents to change to short-term crops to deal with the upcoming hunger that is expected early next year.
Sese said Kisii county will continue receiving short rain up to December this year and urged residents to use the short rain by embracing short-term crops to fight hunger in the county.
“If we need to deal with the upcoming hunger we should embrace and practice short term crops and I urge Kisii county residents to respond to this information positively,” Sese told the press in his office.
The director also urged residents to practice various agricultural activities to enable them to get economic development to promote the county and the country in general.
Sese identified horticultural farming as the highest income that generates a lot of income in the country and urged the residents to take to it.
“I call upon county residents to make sure they practice farming of various crops because this will enable them to get money to support in educating their children and their living standards," he said.
Among the short-term crops Sese identified are: potatoes, wheat, and beans.
