Two leading Nyamira gubernatorial constants led hundreds of their supporters in a rare show of unity among them during the official opening of JAP offices in Nyamira town.
Former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati and Mr Charles Mochama are both seeking the gubernatorial seat on JAP ticket and have been involved in fierce political rivalry in the past.
The two vowed to work together to deliver for Jubilee Alliance party in a region which is predominantly ODM, few days after opposition leader Raila Odinga visited the town.
“Unity is important because at the end of the day we can only have one candidate from JAP and it’s upon us to campaign in harmony and without hatred,” Nyambati said.
“It’s my request to all JAP supporters to be tolerant to each other for the sake of helping us beat ODM in the coming elections. We should not fight each other at all costs,” he said.
On his part, Mochama vowed to put the ODM-led Nyamira government in check, and refuted claims that he had decamped to ODM after receiving Sh18 million from the state.
“I joined JAP because I believe it stands for common problems which our people face. All we want now is smooth campaigns and put check on the failed ODM led Nyamira government. I wasn’t bought by anyone because it was by decision to join Jubilee. Let us work together as a team,” he said.
