All alcoholic beverage commercials will be taken out of the watershed period (5am-10pm) if the guidelines by the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) boss Ezekiel Mutua is anything to go by.
Speaking on Tuesday in a breakfast show on a local media, the controversial KFCB boss said that the classification of advertisements/ programs is aimed at protecting children from exposure to adult content.
"Government should enact laws that should protect the values of the vulnerable like children. KFCB is not interested in regulating what adults watch but seeks to bring sanity as far as content on Tv is concerned," he said.
Mr Mutua also said that all media houses will be expected to submit their content to the board for rating, examination and classification by July 1 before it is aired.
"Since I joined KFCB we have not raided any media house, we have only created awareness. Our local broadcasters are doing our film industry an injustice by airing foreign content all day," said Mr Mutua.
He added: "The board is not interested in regulating wedding videography intended for private consumption."
The regulations comes barely a month after stakeholders and key players in the advertising industry accused Mr Mutua of overstepping his mandate in banning advertisements claiming that he is seeking publicity from the public instead of dealing with his jurisdiction which is films.
