'Pata potea' machines, play stations and casinos have been identified as a great hindrance to youths' development in Nakuru-East's Greenview estate.
Greenview Nyumba Kumi Chairman Stanley Kinuthia said the machines situated at Shamata area of Kivumbini ward are greatly consuming valuable time area youths could have engaged in more profitable ventures.
According to the Nyumba Kumi chairman, most youths in the area are becoming incapacitated and those in school cannot focus on their studies.
"I'm worried about these machines situated in the area and the negative impact to our youths especially school children as they think with a ten-shilling play they can get a lot of money but is just a waste," said Mr Kinuthia.
He said this might lead to insecurity in homes as youths will be eager to play and when they don't get money they might turn to be thieves.
Kinuthia appealed to parents to take responsibility of their children to avoid economic losses and moral degradation.
He also revealed that he had informed the administration over the issue, including area chief Jane Muthoni and that he had requested that the machines be banned for the sake of community security.
