Residents and traders in Kisii have raised concerns over the increased number of street children in Kisii town.
They claimed that cases of irresponsible parents have led to the increased number of children joining the streets.
Speaking in Kisii town, Rosemary Ondiba a kiosk owner said that since devolution, children going into the streets has increased tremendously.
"In the past, you could hardly get 1 or 2 children in the streets within Kisii town, but since 2013 the number has been increasing. County government should look into this matter and help to rehabilitate the small children who could be in school," she said.
She added that many families where parents have failed to provide for their children have caused the whole mess.
"At night you will find street kids going round within town in the cold. It is sad to see such small angels on streets. I wished these children be helped and taken to their homes," remarked Ronald Ondimu.
"Its painful for one to give birth but fails to provide for the family. Why then marry or get married to have children? This is making innocent creatures suffer! Irresponsible parents should be accountable for all the rising cases of street children," argued Nelson Omoke.
"The county government proposed to construct a rehabilitation center to help these children in the streets but until today nothing has been done. During the night and cold seasons, the children suffer since they are homeless," noted Jimmy Marasi.
