A Nyamira member of County Assembly now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to drop his close allies who he works with to woo the Gusii vote claiming they are 'political conmen'.
Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto, have been working with a team led by Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi and former CIC chairman Charles Nyachae to get the support of the community that overwhelmingly voted for Cord in the 2013 elections.
And Nyansiongo MCA Jason Mogusu now wants the President to change his campaign team and recruit vibrant youth who can shift the ground from the Opposition.
“Gusii region has traditionally voted for the opposition ODM and in next year’s elections, the region will play a fundamental role in deciding the winner. However, the President is using a wrong tact which will cost us,” he said.
“Using political conmen and brokers is making things difficult. Some of the leaders he uses have lost touch with the community and this makes it even worse. Time has come for him to recruit young and vibrant men who can help deliver the votes. We are ready for the task if he assigns us,” added Mogusu.
The Gusiiland voted overwhelmingly for Cord leader Raila Odinga and the Jubilee team has been keen on recapturing it with the President having made several trips to the region since 2013.
