The security trend in the country has taken a dip with cases of killings of local people rising day by day. The most recent case is that of slain lawyer Willie Kimani, his client and the taxi man who was driving them.
The question many will ask themselves is: why is the government not reacting to these senseless killings?
When businessman Jacob Juma was killed, the government promised to bring the perpetrators of the inhumane killing to book. To date, no sensible suspect has been arrested with over one month gone.
What confuses Kenyans is that in lawyer Willie Kimani's case, the police are the main suspects. This is very disturbing considering that the police are the custodians of law and order in the society.
These killings that have taken place for a long time now should be brought to an end. The families losing loved ones day by day due to security lapse have nowhere to turn to as they fear that those supposed to help are the same ones in the centre of suspicion.
The government through the use of various security agencies in the country, should bring to book all those who have committed murder of innocent Kenyans for their own gain. Many people have lost their lives and the negative image being painted about Kenya in not good. Many countries have already given travel advisories to their citizens on visiting Kenya citing security as the main concern. This has affected the economy and with this trend of deaths, more countries will try to avoid us like a plague.
No shortcuts: the government should and must bring to book the killers in the lawyer's case. Regardless of their status in society, anyone suspected of the murder must be grilled to get to the root of the crime. If it is a police officer(s), they must face trial and if found guilty, only jail should be their place.
