Former Othaya MP Mary Wambui has broken her silence after President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed her as the chair of the National Employment Authority.
Wambui has defended her appointment, saying she is qualified to assume the new role amid fierce criticism over her.
She has affirmed that she deserves the position because she is not only experienced but also qualified. Wambui said that her appointment in a gazette notice issued by Labour Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani was based on nothing but merit
“I got the post because I am better than those complaining. I have the qualifications and experience to run the office,” the former legislator said, as quoted by Nairobi News.
Her appointment had caused a storm online with a section of Kenyans questioning why President Uhuru Kenyatta made such a decision when youths are languishing in abject poverty because of the lack of jobs.
Wambui has since thanked the President following the appointment into office.
She also promised to deliver in her new capacity even as Kenyans call for the reversal of the decision. Uhuru also appointed Edwin Abonyo, widower of former Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso as a member of the State Corporations Advisory Committee.
The duo is expected to assume office on October 14, 2019.
