Renowned lawyer Kipchumba Karori has shared his perspective on the legal implications of lawyer Miguna Miguna's debacle on the Kenyan taxpayer.
Speaking during a panel discussion on K24, the lawyer said there was real prospect of the Canadian-based lawyer seeking damages for the mistreatment that he has been subjected to by the state.
"This is not money that the violators will pay, it is you and me who will payer. Whatever Miguna is going through, the taxpayer will have the net effect of that because as you have seen, Miguna has build this case quite well, he has been going to court, he has been following the process," Karori said. Miguna has on several instances moved to court through his lawyers, seeking for orders compelling the government to facilitate his unconditional return to Kenya.
In all the instances, the court ruled in his favour and directed the government to return his travel documents.
In its defence, the government said it has not denied the lawyer the right to come back, adding that it has asked him to obtain a passport from one of the country's foreign missions.
Miguna has insisted that he will not apply for another travel document, as the one he had was seized and destroyed by the government.
