Kiambu Branch Huduma Centre Manager Josephine Mwengi has asked members of the public seeking services at the centre to use official means to avoid conmen.

She warned that there are fraudsters prowling around the centre looking for ignorant clients to con under the pretext of helping them get services faster.

Speaking in her office at the centre located opposite Thika Sub-county Stadium on Wednesday, Mwengi said that those seeking various services at the centre should only be served at the respective counters offering the services they are looking for.

"The main objective of Huduma Centres is to have Kenyans receive as many services as possible under one roof and as fast as possible. So, there should be no scenario where somebody tricks you into paying them to have you served faster. Those are cons and everything is being done to send them away from our precints," said Mwengi.

Though she noted that such cases are not widespread at the centre that opened on November last year, Mwengi said that two con's had already been arraigned and charged in court after they were caught trying to solicit money from a woman who was trying to secure a birth certificate for her kid.

At the same time, she pointed out that several government services are now available at the centre while urging the public to take advantage of the centre to receive several services at once.

Mwengi also asked ministries with counters at the centre and are yet to send their representatives at the centre to expedite the process to ensure that the centre lives to its promise of offering several services under one roof.

"Some counters here like that of the Ombudsman, Immigration, Lands and Kenya National Human Rights Commission are still empty and we are still eagerly waiting their mother ministries or departments to send their representatives," Mwengi said.
