National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) will soon start a door to door campaign seeking to talk to youth about the effects of alcohol and drug abuse.
Chairman John Mututho said that there has been an increase of teenage drinking in the country which was a worrying trend.
Mututho pointed out that they would involve security officers, Members of County Assembly and local chiefs at the grassroot levels so that they can reach the youth.
“We are targeting more than two million youths and in the process we will be able to get those who are already addicted to the drugs and take them for rehabilitation,” said Mututho.
Mututho called on parents of such children not to hide them.
“Unfortunately due to religious beliefs some of the parents are ashamed and do not want their children to be seen as if they have a drinking problem. They end up hiding their children who are heavily addicted to liquor and this can be disastrous,” he added.
Mututho was speaking to this writer in a phone interview on Thursday where he also challenged the local administration to improve on their move to address the illegal liquor
“Unfortunately it has been on the increase and many of the areas where it was sold before have been operating in bold daylight,” he added.
