Gitaru MCA Charles Arahuka has asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries commission (IEBC) to start sensitising Kenyans on the electoral process ahead of the 2017 general elections.

Addressing traders at Gitaru Trading Centre on Wednesday, the MCA said that Kenyans need to be sensitized on the electoral process as many of them don’t understand the process.

He stated that the move will all encourage Kenyans to take part in elections and vote in leaders who will campaign for their interests.

“The IEBC should start putting in place mechanisms that will see Kenyans educated on the election process before the 2017 general elections,” said the MCA.

Arahuka said that it’s the responsibility of the electoral body to educate Kenyans about its activities.

“The electoral commission should not wait until the last minute before start voter sensitisation campaigns,” he said.

The MCA at the same time urged the government to allocate the IEBC more funds as it prepares for the polls. He said that funding the agency properly will enable it conduct credible and fair elections.

“The IEBC should be given more resources for it to conduct credible polls,” he added.

Arahuka who is also the county assembly chief whip appealed top residents to register as voters. He asked leaders to rally behind locals to register for them to be able to take part in the 2017 elections.
